How To Do EFT?

The Short Cut Version (Basic Recipe)

Learning the mechanics of EFT is easy. There are four parts to the EFT technique

I.  Identify the problem or issue—BE SPECIFIC, for example:

This pain in my knee, or I am upset that Dad yelled at me, I am Angry at my boss, I have this fear of bees

The more specific the better, so I have this pain in my knee could be I have this stabbing pain in my knee.  Or, I am upset that Dad yelled at me becomes:  I am furious that Dad yelled at me.   Fear of bees would be fear of bees stinging me.

II.  Rate it:  How much does it bother you from 0 – 10.  0 is no problem at all and 10 is extremely painful or extremely upset.

III.   Set Up:  Create a set up statement that is like this:

      Even though –(THE ISSUE/OR PAIN) I totally and completely love and accept my self.

 So in our case: “Even though I have this pain in my knee I totally and completely love and accept myself.”

      Reminder statement:  the issue you are dealing with:  In our case:  pain in my knee

IV. Tap IT. --Please refer to the Tapping Points Diagram for the points to tap.

Eye Brow:       On the beginning of the hair on the eyebrow
Side of Eye:     On outer corner of eye –ending of eyebrow
Under Eye:      Right under eyeball if you look straight.
Under Nose:   In the center
Chin:               In the groove
Collar Bone:   Go right under collar bone (where a man would have knot of his tie) and move 2.5 cm (1 inch)  to either side of body.
Under Arm:    As if there is a seam on side of body, and 4 fingers under the arm.  Use 4 fingers to tap here.
Top of Head:  Using all fingers gently tap the frontal area.  If you put your thumbs on beginning of your ears and go upward toward head, that is the area, and tap lightly all around with all fingers.

Now we start what we call EFT sequence 

EFT Sequence (1 Round)

I.  Set Up:  Tap on the edge of your palm, between the small finger and wrist (where you would chop a karate board, using either hand) with all 4 fingers of the other hand while saying the set up statement.  This is often referred to as the “Karate Chop”, and state the SET UP STATEMENT 3 TIMES.

"Even though I have this pain in my knee, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."

Repeat this statement 3 times.

Note:  At times it is difficult, or impossible to say “I love and accept myself”,  you can use:  “I’m OK”, or “I want to accept myself” or “I choose to accept myself”, or “Deep deep down I love myself/ I’m OK”.

This set up is very important and assures you that you are not the issue and issues will come and go but you are you, and you are OK. 

II.  Tapping:  they are 8 points in the sequence:    Tapping means gently using first and second finger to gently tap, as if tapping on a table.   In tapping it is best to follow the sequence starting with the face, and then the body. (See diagram below).

REMINDER STATEMENT:   While tapping repeat the Reminder Statement (preferably out loud, several times, and tap the point gently 6-8 times. The reminder statement keeps you focused on the issue and feelings and tells your mind what is of issue here. 

So in our case the reminder statement is:

   “this pain in my shoulder”-- will be repeated as we tap all the points.

Eye Brow:      THIS PAIN INMY SHOULDER
Side of Eye:   THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER
Under Eye:    THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER
Under Nose:  THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER
Chin:              THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER
Collar Bone:  THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER
Under Arm:   THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER
Top of Head: THIS PAIN IN MY SHOULDER

This Is 1 Round

Do this tapping sequence 2 times.   Stop,  TAKE A DEEP BREATH.
And again RATE it:  i.e. check how much it’s bothering you form 0-10.  Often the original issue is GONE.  Or the pain may have decreased from the original rating to a lower level. 

Keep doing this,  but this time recognize that it has lowered, so we would say “even though I have this remaining pain" (or whatever your set was).  For example: "I am angry with my dad, may feel more like I am sad because my dad-----.  The emotion changed.  So we work next with that as a set up statement and start the process as above.

In Summary
Determine the issue--Rate It—Set up statement—Reminder statement—Sequence—Check again by rating the pain, or the feeling—Keep doing this, till the intensity of the feeling is gone or very low—ie a 1 or 2.

This is the basic “Short Cut” method which is being used by most practitioners and has proven to work very well.   There is a longer process, which you can refer to and read about in the EFT Manual

                                           EFT Is Easy, Fast And Works Great.
                                                                  Try It

I encourage you to try it now.  You have nothing to lose except the pain or bad feeling!  Find something that is hurting or bothering you.  Check how you feel, find the words for it.  For example “I am angry with Dad, and my chest feels tight, and I am not breathing deeply”  Great.  Our emotions do translate into bodily symptoms, so be aware of how the feeling is really affecting you.

I.  Determine the issue
II.  Rate it:  0-10.
III. Set Up:  “Even though-------I am ok” 
IV. Reminder statement:  specify it
V.  EFT ROUND
1. Karate Chop:  “Even though------I am ok” 3 times.
2. Eye brow tap while saying the reminder
3. Side of Eye-tap while saying the reminder till you reach top of head.  Repeat this sequence and rate again. 
Do the Sequence again if you have not relieved the pain or you still feel the emotion, using the words “this remaining”.
Keep doing this, till the rating reaches 0.  If it is not, you are experiencing Psychological Reversal, go to EFT Manual for more information on how to deal with that. 

Also at times you will find the physical pain moving from one part of your body to another. That is ok, just keep tapping. 

While working on emotional issues, at times the emotions shift, or you have a thought or an event come up in your mind, that issue/event/thought is related to your emotion in some way.   In EFT we call these Aspects. As we all know we are not linear in our thinking and emotions, so an issue usually has a number of aspects.   In all cases, just remember whatever comes up to your mind while tapping, work on it too either now, or at a later time, because that means that this too needs to be cleared up.    In working on different issues, things will come up, and you will remember events, sayings.  Keep these in a journal and work on them, following the Personal Peace Program.

Finally, if you are working on an issue, physical or emotional and things are not changing nor getting better while events and thoughts keep coming up. Then I advise you to work on this issue with a practitioner  who is trained to get to core issues. Also toyou can apply many other EFT techniques that can help you.

Gary craig advises you to keep a journal of all the memories, sayings, events, things that come up while tapping.  Keep these in a journal,
and add to them, anything , that is still bothering you, even if it seems silly, or small, because if you still feel a bit uneasy, sad, upset, 
resentful, or any other negative feeling, it is still affecting you.  In writing all of these and committing to  work on 3 per day for a month,
you have gone through 90 issues.  In fact you have released much more than 90 issues, as in working on one issue till it reaches a 0,
we also release many other similar issues.   This is called the Personal Peace `Program, where by working on all the stories you reach
peace within. 

The Personal Peace Program, is a great way to change your feelings, attitudes, anger, sadness, and often migraines,  and different aches
and pains in the body.  Once you have completed this program you will feel different, be more patient, have clarity of mind, and many 
other positive aspects.  Your face will look fresher, and often younger.
